One Simple Practice To Shift Everything
Today, I want to introduce a simple practice that can be done anywhere, anytime, to quickly elevate your state of being. This has previously pulled me out of anxiety in the past and has proven to bring about a sense of relaxation with very little effort.
Before I get to the practice itself, I want to share a little story. It’s about my first lucid dream and how I awakened to the potential of this practice.
So I’m in dreamland, right? I start slowly noticing how odd this particular dream is. I remember it like it’s yesterday. I'm on a giant staircase, floating in the middle of space. On this staircase, there are at least a few thousand people scattered about each platform, and they are all dancing. It finally occurred to me that this was beyond bizarre!
In the blink of an eye, I knew this wasn’t real; I had awakened in my dream. Simultaneously, everybody on the staircase stopped dancing, turned, and stared at me as soon as I realized I was in a dream. The music abruptly stopped, as if the chord were yanked out of the mile-high speakers. In this same instance, I not only saw everyone looking straight into my eyes, but I also saw myself and everyone else looking into my eyes in what seemed like a complete shock of perspective.
I immediately woke up. I was buzzing from what had just occurred. Far too early, yet more alert than I have ever been. I’m not sure what kind of energy poured into me, but I remember how different that day was.
That’s where this practice comes into play. It’s the simple shift of seeing yourself from outside.. It's easy. Imagine that the world is looking at you. In this very moment, imagine the computer or the phone looking right back at you.
Try it; it's so easy yet brings a huge shift into your body. Feel the way you physically react to this practice. It doesn’t have to be done a lot; just a few times a day for a few moments, and it starts building on itself. It brings your awareness out of your head and into the spaciousness around you. You’ll find yourself wanting to do it more.
